How to Fix iTunes not recognizing iPhone, iPad and iPod

After plugging in your iPhone, sometimes iTunes may not recognize it. The same thing might happen and your Mac or Windows PC stops recognizing your iPad and iPods. So how do you fix it? Before deeming it a hardware problem, make sure to check all the software related issues that might be causing this "failed to recognize device" error. There is actually long post by apple support on this but I don't think you need to read it all to fix this iPhone not recognized in iTunes problem.

How to fix iTunes not recognizing iPhone, iPad and iPod

  1. Reboot your iPhone and then connect it to iTunes
    • To reboot: Hold home button (round button at the end of the screen) + Sleep button (on top of phone) until you get passed "slide to switch off" message and see the Apple logo. Now let go of the buttons since your phone restarting.
  2. Check and Update iTunes to the latest version
  3. Disconnect device, restart your Mac or PC and then again re-connect
  4. Try a different USB port (will fix the problem in case of faulty port)
  5. Try a different USB cable
  6. Plug out device, uninstall  iTunes completely and then reinstall it
  7. If all the above fails, back up your stuffs and then factory reset your iPhone, iPad or iPod
    • Steps: Backup your device via iTunes or iCloud. Then on your device, go to Settings >> General >> Tap "Reset"  >> Tap "Erase All content and Settings". Wait for sometime until your device is restored to factory settings. Now you can restore from icloud or iTunes.

Well, I hope one of the above steps fixed your "iPhone-iPad-iPod not recognized on iTunes" issue. If you think this is a device problem, you can check by connecting it to a different computer. Sometimes it might be caused due to a fault connector which needs repairing. However, most of the time its just a small software glitch.
